executed a Viet Cong officer with a pistol shot to the head in a scene captured
in a famous news photograph. 1991: A US Air jetliner crashed on
top of a commuter
plane on a runway at Los Angeles International Airport. 35 people were killed 1992:
Irving R. Kaufman,Federal Judge, who sentenced Julius and Ethel Rosenberg to death, died in New York at age 81.
1997: Herb Caen, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, died
in San Francisco at age 80. 2002: US Space shuttle Discovery exploded
while entering atmosphere in early Saturday morning 7:58am above states
of Texas. Some parts found later scattered as far as Louisiana,
New Mexico, and Arizona. 5 American astronauts, one American
Indian born woman astronaut and one Israeli astronaut died after being
in space for a 16 day research mission. 2004: Around
10-11 in the morning, 251 Moslem pilgrims died in a stampede in Jamarat
location in Mina desert near Mecca during the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

A 6-year-old Kayla Rolland was fatally shot by a
fellow first-grader at Buell Elementary School in Mount Morris
